Medieval Wargame v1 Playing Method: Turn based (24 hours=one turn, using GMT time) Number of Players: As many that wants to play Mods: Hodda_da_teapot, and -BiSIYIaRCk-
There will be 2-4 Tech lines that you can choose from, more info will be made available on them shortly. Each of these tech lines will have different Unique Units. All the different tech lines will have the same basic units.
Basic Units
Basic Infantry Units
Short Swordsman - The basic sword-weilding infantry unit, carrys a short sword and shield to battle, nice anti-infantry armor, preforms well against other infantry, but can have a hard time fighting off other players archers, unless your swordsmen outnumber the opposing players archers, almost worthless against a group of Horses (cost: 3 gold 4 food)
Long Swordsman - the basic sword weilding infantry unit, it carries a long heavy sowrd to battle, slightly more expensive than the short swordsman but slower, therefore it will be weaker against enemy archer attacks, but on the other side it is more effective against enemy cavalry and infantry (cost: 5 gold 4 food)
Spearman - an infantry unit armed with a large spear, it doesnt have much armor, but are very effective against enemy horses, swordsmen and archers can really cause problems for this unit though (cost: 2 wood 4 food)
Clubman - A slightly armored infantry unit armed with a spiked club, nice and quick infantry unit, mainly used for scouting and hit-and-run raiding, not recomended for traditional combat (cost: 2 wood 2 food)
Basic Archer Units
Bowman - the basic archer unit, little to no armor, but can fire at a distance quickly, reccomended use for opposing infantry units, very weak if attacked by opposing horses (cost: 4 gold, 3 wood)
Slinger - a cheap un armored unit that slings rocks and other objects of the sort, good for hit and run attacks, but can be difficult to fight with in a traditional sence (cost: 2 food)
Crossbowman - a more expensive version of the bowman, fires at a quicker pace and packs a hard punch, very good against opposing infantry and archers, fair against enemy horses (cost: 5 food 3 gold)
Spear Thrower - a archery unit that has extra attack against enemy archers, carries a pack of spears and a large shield for protection, relatively cheap, not so great against infantry and pretty much worthelss against enemy horses (cost: 3 food 2 wood)
Long Ranged bowman - a very long range but slightly inaccurate bowman, better for surprise attacks, simmilar to a "sniper". no armor and extremely weak if attacked (cost: 4 gold 4 wood)
Horse Archer - basically a bowman on a horse, fast and effective against most units ecxept cavalry, good for hit and run attacks as well (cost: 5 gold 4 wood)
Basic Cavalry Units
Scout Horseman - a slightly armored man on a non armored horse, equipped with a short sword, might be good for early combat, but as the game progresses, its better for hit and run attacks since they are the fastest units in the game (cost: 4 food)
Knight - your basic knight, nice armor on both the horse and the man, long sword and shield for an attack, great against all units except spearmen and camels, extremely effective against archers (cost: 8 gold 6 food)
Camel - a good anti horse unit that is effective against archers, the unit has some armor and a medium sized sword to attack with, faster than the knight (cost: 6 gold 4 food)
Basic Seige Weaponry
The Balista - a giant "bow" that fires large objects at an oncoming army, very effective against slow units in groups, can be inaccurate if facing one unit or fast units, best if you keep away from oncomming cavalry (cost: 10 gold 9 wood)
The Battering Ram - can knock down any specific building in one turn if un-guarded, if the building is guarded then you may station 5 foot units of anytype inside to give off a surprise attack (cost: 8 gold 12 wood)
The Cataput - a slowly moving "car" that can throw a group of rocks at units, very effective against slow infantry and archers, worthless against cavalry (cost: 6 gold 5 wood)
The Trebuchet - a large sling to knock down any building in a town no matter what, expensive and if there are any infantry or cavalry units around, consider it dead, only used for desparate attacks, or together with Balistas (Cost: 15 gold 12 wood)
Those are you basic units that ALL tech lines will have.
Buildings:
Barraks-Allows you to produce the infantry line units (cost-15 wood-1 turn to build)
Archery Range- Allows you to produce the archer line units (cost-15 wood 2 turn build)
Stable- Allows you to build the stable line units (cost-20 wood 2 turn build)
Seige Workshop- Allows you to build seige units (cost 25 wood 3 turn build)

Your Country
You get to name your country, and which tech line you want it to take. After this has been done, i will create a map and place people apart from each other with Non-Player countries in between. Do gain food, gold, etc. you will need to build buildings that add to that particular resource [ September 02, 2002, 03:21: Message edited by: Teapot ]

correct me if im wrong, but it seems like you want things to go in this order
1 you post some of the rules. 2 bunch of people sign up for the game 3 all these people pick their countries and tech lines without knowing what countries are available or what a tech line is. 4 you make a map and explain what a tech line is. 5 people are REALY unhappy with thier initial choises cause EVERY one thinks they got cheated one way or another.
ps, if you REALY dont like this post being here and undermining your effort to start the game, you can delete or edit it, i wont mind (especialy since it 'could' be wrong)

well, the part i dont get is: we pick countries.... BEFORE we see a map??? what's the available countries then. I know you aint done designing the game yet, and its WAY too early to start signups, and the only reason you have a sighup thread is to see how many people would be interested in playing so that you know how many to design the game for. but unfortunately, its misleading people into thinking they can start playing tomorrow and they are picking their countries (not know which to pick from, surprised no one has picked the US yet, lol).
that it i guess.
oh, almost forgot. I wanna be the Martians (guys from Mars) and i want the Futuristic tech line. LOL
