When ancient Rome was near defeat,
the invincible Tenth Legion was raised:
they beat the barbarians on the battlefield
and Rome gained peace with honour again.
When the traitor, on September the eighth,
left the fatherland in infamy,
the Tenth Flotilla was raised from the sea
and it brought weapons at the cry for honour!

Oh our Tenth Flotilla,
you that mocked England,
you victorious on Alexandria,
Malta, Souda and Gibraltar,
you already victorious upon the sea,
now even on the dry land
you will win!

To you Italian ships, stolen from us
not in battle but by treason,
and to you, our prisoners and dead brothers,
we swear:
we swear that we'll came back,
let this be God's and the Flag's will.
We swear that we'll fight
until we obtain an honourable peace!

Oh no, I made my point quite clear.

I laugh at the Italian Army.

It would make more sense you proving your point about them being the most feared.

Personally the people I would fear most are the Russian Tax Collectors.

And Kenny is right, but I would love to know how our general military history is so shit?

Lets see:

Who had an empire covering 1/3 of the glode?
The language you speak? Its not the biggest, but the most powerful ... thats due to a certain countrys general military history.
Who defeated an entire French and Spanish fleet, and Napolean?
Who helped win the war? By kicking the poorly equipped Italians, who needed to be helped by the Germans out of north africa. And helped America invade and take over Italy, who turned coat?
Which countrys fleet made sure Italies fleet didnt eve leave harbour for fear of loosing it in WW2?
Which countrys troops were specifically chosen to conduct operations in the mountains of Afghanistan because they are seen as some of the best high altitude troops in the world?

Im not saying we are the best, im not saying we are th most feared, but you made a completely invalid point. I do say that our armed forces and general military history are much greater than that of Italy.

But back to Kenny's point, prove that regiment are the most feared ...

Kenny's posts are ignored as they are from a child

My comments on the British were simply to spite "2d", as you may know, i have alot of respect for the British

Here i will prove they are the most feared mountain soldiers on Earth:

- Battle of Ortigara (1917): Alpini forces withstand massive assaults by enemy forces in the steep mountains of the Agnelizza Valley, losses are maassive but they do not retreat

- Mid December 1942 - Axis forces begin losing ground in the Soviet Union. Russian troops mount a counterattack on the frozen Don River.
Fierce fighting is reported and eventually the Hungarian and Romanian forces flee, leaving only the Italians to fight. Outnumbered 4-1, The Italians are forced to retreat leaving only crack Alpine troops to fight until they too are almost encircled.

The Alpini's actions on the Eastern Front are more than enough to warrant them being called "the finest mountain troops on Earth"

Alpini units are responsible for opening over a dozen "breaches" in the Soviet lines which allowed German, Hungarian, Romanian and other Italian units to flee.

 -

The commander of the Alpini Corps in Russia died fighting along side his Alpino rather than retreat as the other Axis commanders did, he is now an immortal hero

"Gen. Martinat, chief of staff of the Alpini Armed Corps, had just reached the head of the retreating column on the hill over Nikolajewka. In the preceeding days he was desperately trying to get in touch with the "Julia" and "Cuneense" Alpini Divisions Commands, in order to communicate them the change of route that the coloumn was going to make. There were no radios left with those two divs (the one with the Julia had been destroied, without orders, by the German Liaison Officer. This act - the young officer thought, mistakingly, that the Div. Command end was near, and autonomously decided to destroy the last long range radio - cost the Division its sad faith) and personal contact with them was the only way to communicate with them. Gen. Martinat didn't manage, his efforts notwithstanding, to get in touch with Gens. Ricagno (Julia) and Battisti (Cuneense) and returned to his Command.

As soon as he reached the top of the hill he faced the desperate situation that the remnants of his Corps was facing. The first strike of the remaining of the "Val Chiese" Btl was being defeated by the Russians near the station. The "Edolo" Btl had just arrived on the place and was attacking.

He joined them ("with "Edolo" I begun, with "Edolo" I'll end up") and fought.

Lt. Col. Chierici (Formerly Commander of "Val Chiese" Btl, then of all the column avantgarde) reports that he saw him saying those words and follow the other soldiers. He than heard a loud sound, turned and saw, on the snow towards the infamous railway bypass, the body of Gen Martinat almost cut in two pieces.

This was the end of a man who was later awarded the Golden Medal."

Add to this countless peacekeeping operations in Bosnia, Afganistan etc.. and you have the world's only dedicated mountain fighting force

A great book on the Alpini in Russia is "The Seargant in the Snow"

Numerous times the author (an Alpino who served at the Don) indicates the huge amount of respect the Germans had for the Alpini, considering they cared little for their Axis allies, this alone proves their worth.

Ill accept they are damn good, if you want to talk feared, the Ghurkas would scare the shit out of me.

In the Falklands, the Argentinian forces would engane Paras and Marines, but they fled from the Ghurkas, straight into the Royal Marines.

Aye the Ghurkas are some tough warriors

During WW2 the Japanese feared them greatly

The blade they each carry, called "kukhri", can only be drawn to have blood spilled on it according to the legend, even if the Ghurka had to cut himself with it, part of their warrior heritage

When ancient Rome was near defeat,
the invincible Tenth Legion was raised:
they beat the barbarians on the battlefield
and Rome gained peace with honour again.
When the traitor, on September the eighth,
left the fatherland in infamy,
the Tenth Flotilla was raised from the sea
and it brought weapons at the cry for honour!

Oh our Tenth Flotilla,
you that mocked England,
you victorious on Alexandria,
Malta, Souda and Gibraltar,
you already victorious upon the sea,
now even on the dry land
you will win!

To you Italian ships, stolen from us
not in battle but by treason,
and to you, our prisoners and dead brothers,
we swear:
we swear that we'll came back,
let this be God's and the Flag's will.
We swear that we'll fight
until we obtain an honourable peace!
