By far the largest and most populous country in South America, Brazil has overcome more than half a century of military intervention in the governance of the country to pursue industrial and agricultural growth and development of the interior. Exploiting vast natural resources and a large labor pool, Brazil became Latin America's leading economic power by the 1970s. Highly unequal income distribution remains a pressing problem.

Japanese land in Peru; Brazillians fear invasion
The Brazillian people fear a Japanese Empire in South America may surround Brazil, and eventually invade, a poll revealed today.
President Nemesis has sworn to do everything he can to stop this happening, and has ordered Brazillian troops to expand into the rest of South America to block a Japanese advance.
Brazil accepted into the Allied Nations
President Nemesis today led celebrations in Brasilia over Brazil's entry into the Allied Nations. He particularly thanked Egypt for backing his application to join.

President Nemesis today announced that Brazil would industrialise to improve Brazil's economy.
Nuclear deterrent likely
The President today announced that he would build a nuclear arsenal in the near future to prevent an invasion of Brazil by foreign powers.
This has been in direct response to the concerns of the Brazillian people, who were worried about being boxed in by bigger nations.

Monday 12th August 2002
Factory completed - Brazil becoming industrialised
Brazil took another step on the way to becoming a developed nation today with the completion of a new factory in Brasilia.
President Nemesis declared it "the first step of a long journey".
Japan and America edge closer to war - Brazil takes sides
The Brazillian people have demanded action against Japan, and President Nemesis has agreed. Brazil is too weak to attack Japan, but he has authorised a right of passage to be given to American troops, which would allow them to station forces in Brazillian territory, and move through our nation to attack Japan.
The people have cheered at this news, wanting the foreigners removed from South America soil.
Nuclear weapons not likely for a while yet
President Nemesis today calmed fears of a nuclear holocaust including Brazil by assuring the people he has abandoned plans to build nuclear weapons "in the near future".

President condemns nuclear attacks
As the world goes crazy, and Japan shows a willingness to use nuclear weapons whether the nation hit can respond in the same way or not, President Nemesis fears that his nation will not hold against Japan in a war, with or without nuclear weapons.
Therefore, he is ordering the expansion of the Brazillian Defence Force effective immediately.
The President condemned the Japanese nuclear attacks, and called for their dismissal from the Allied Nations Council.
"They are barbarians with nuclear weapons," he is reported to have said.
He also broke all links with Saudi Arabia, who have invaded a devastated Israel, calling them "Japanese lapdogs".
Forces on high alert
The Brazillian Defence Force today was on high alert to repel any Japanese attack, as one is expected soon.
Also, due to the fear of American betrayal, the Premier has offered an alliance to America to prove this rumour false.
Japan cracks down on Jewish terrorists - the President condemns them again
Japan has attempted to stamp out Mossad terrorists by killing all Jews in their nation, not realising that Mossad wouldn't be stupid enough to disguise themselves as Jews.
As President Nemesis said:
"They're basically just killing innocent Jews, and leaving the terrorists at large. I support Mossad in their attacks more than ever now."
He also called for America to respond to Japan's killing of innocent Jews, quoting the large amount of Jewish people living in America.

OCCUPIED NATIONS
Peru
Population: 27,483,864
Income: 1 credit
Required Garrison: 2 units
Info: Ancient Peru was the seat of several prominent Andean civilizations, most notably that of the Incas whose empire was captured by the Spanish conquistadores in 1533. Peruvian independence was declared in 1821, and remaining Spanish forces defeated in 1824. After a dozen years of military rule, Peru returned to democratic leadership in 1980, but experienced economic problems and the growth of a violent insurgency. President Alberto Fujimori's election in 1990 ushered in a decade that saw a dramatic turnaround in the economy and significant progress in curtailing guerrilla activity. Nevertheless, the president's increasing reliance on authoritarian measures and an economic slump in the late 1990s generated mounting dissatisfaction with his regime. Fujimori won reelection to a third term in the spring of 2000, but international pressure and corruption scandals caused him to resign in November of that year. A caretaker government oversaw new elections in the spring of 2001, which ushered in Alejandro Toledo as the new head of government.
Bolivia
Population: 8,300,463
Income: 1 credit
Required Garrison: 2 units
Info: Bolivia, named after independence fighter Simon Bolivar, broke away from Spanish rule in 1825; much of its subsequent history has consisted of a series of nearly 200 coups and counter-coups. Comparatively democratic civilian rule was established in the 1980s, but leaders have faced difficult problems of deep-seated poverty, social unrest, and drug production. Current goals include attracting foreign investment, strengthening the educational system, continuing the privatization program, and waging an anti-corruption campaign.
Paraguay
Population: 5,734,139
Income: 1 credit
Required Garrison: No units
Info: In the disastrous War of the Triple Alliance (1865-70), Paraguay lost two-thirds of all adult males and much of its territory. It stagnated economically for the next half century. In the Chaco War of 1932-35, large, economically important areas were won from Bolivia. The 35-year military dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner was overthrown in 1989, and, despite a marked increase in political infighting in recent years, relatively free and regular presidential elections have been held since then.
Uruguay
Population: 3,360,105
Income: 1 credit
Required Garrison: 2 units
Info: A violent Marxist urban guerrilla movement, the Tupamaros, launched in the late 1960s, led Uruguay's president to agree to military control of his administration in 1973. By the end of the year the rebels had been crushed, but the military continued to expand its hold throughout the government. Civilian rule was not restored until 1985. Uruguay's political and labor conditions are among the freest on the continent. [ August 12, 2002, 04:09: Message edited by: uknemesis ]

-------------------- Decima MAS \ When ancient Rome was near defeat, the invincible Tenth Legion was raised: they beat the barbarians on the battlefield and Rome gained peace with honour again. When the traitor, on September the eighth, left the fatherland in infamy, the Tenth Flotilla was raised from the sea and it brought weapons at the cry for honour!
Oh our Tenth Flotilla, you that mocked England, you victorious on Alexandria, Malta, Souda and Gibraltar, you already victorious upon the sea, now even on the dry land you will win!
To you Italian ships, stolen from us not in battle but by treason, and to you, our prisoners and dead brothers, we swear: we swear that we'll came back, let this be God's and the Flag's will. We swear that we'll fight until we obtain an honourable peace!
