Turkish champions Galatasaray ignored a knife-wielding Fenerbahce fan who planted his club's flag on the centre-spot at Ali Sami Yen at the weekend and took an early Super League lead with a 4-1 win over Samunspor.
A Fenerbahce fan nicknamed 'Rambo' ran out shortly before kick-off to plant his side's yellow-and-blue flag in the middle of the Galatasaray ground.
Newspapers said he had been hiding behind the hoardings around the pitch since the night before.
He briefly held police at bay with a small knife before they hauled him away to the jeers of the Galatasaray crowd. The two Istanbul clubs are bitter rivals.
Galatasaray, playing under coach Fatih Terim for the first time since he returned to the Istanbul side in the close season, easily beat Samsunspor. Striker Umit Karan scored twice.
Fenerbahce, meanwhile, had to settle for opening their Super League campaign with a goalless draw at Trabzonspor. Besiktas drew 2-2 away at Bursaspor.

heres a story that interested me:
Galatasaray downs Greek champions Ahead of the game, both sides signed the Olympic Truce, designed to promote peace during the staging of the Olympic games. August 1— In a night of firsts, reigning Turkish champion Galatasaray recorded a 2-0 victory over Greek premiers Olympiakos on Wednesday night, in a match that had as much to do with symbolism as it did with football.
Galatasaray’s win came courtesy of goals from Berkant in the 27th minute and Arif in the 90th. The home team’s coach, Fatih Terim, back at the helm after two seasons in Italy, put the best available squad onto the park, and they didn’t disappoint either their manager or the crowd. However, the match was also significant as it was the first ever played at Istanbul’s new Atatürk Olympic stadium, the main venue for what Turkey hopes will one day be the showcase of the city’s hosting of the of the games after a series of unsuccessful bids. The meeting between Galatasaray and Olympiakos was the first in decades between the Turkish and Greek domestic champions and served as an indication of how far the two countries have moved away from their former hostility. The only low point of the game, played before an enthusiastic crowd, was the massive traffic jams after the match. Before the game, both sides signed the Olympic Truce, a pledge of peace and friendship for the 2004 Olymipcs, to be held in Athens. “If we all live in peace for 16 days, maybe we can live in continuous peace,” Lambrinides, the general director of the International Olympic Truce Centre said at the ceremony. Last month, Turkey and Greece have lodged a joint bid to host the 2008 European Football Championships.

Ummm...why would anybody actually risk going into a Turkish prison just to do that? He must have been ever so slightly mad.

Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here."
