Ukraine

Background: Richly endowed in natural resources, Ukraine has been fought over and subjugated for centuries; its 20th-century struggle for liberty is not yet complete. A short-lived independence from Russia (1917-1920) was followed by brutal Soviet rule that engineered two artificial famines (1921-22 and 1932-33) in which over 8 million died, and World War II, in which German and Soviet armies were responsible for some 7 million more deaths. Although independence was attained in 1991 with the dissolution of the USSR, true freedom remains elusive as many of the former Soviet elite remain entrenched, stalling efforts at economic reform, privatization, and civic liberties.

Ukrainian Units

Ground Units:

T-84 Oplot Tank Unit: The T-84 Oplot is Ukraine’s latest and greatest tank. Like all Russian equipment it is reliable and heavily armed. (Cost: 14)

T-84 Tank Unit: The T-84 is an Ukrainian upgraded T-80 with better amour, electronics and other systems. (Cost: 12)

T80UM Tank Unit: The T-80UM is a good tank in the Ukrainian Army. Like all tanks it is good against enemy tanks and vehicles. (Cost: 8)

T-72BM Tank Unit: The T-72BM is an upgrade version of the famous T-72 tank. It has good armor and a good reliable engine. (Cost: 6)

BMP-2 Mechanized Infantry Unit: This is the same unit as above but these troops ride in the older BMP-2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle. (Cost: 8)

BTR-70 Mechanized Infantry Unit: This unit is the same as the above two but these troops ride in the wheeled and less armored BTR-70 8x8 Infantry Vehicle. Mechanized Infantry are good for rapid attacks against enemy ground units. (Cost: 6)

Motor Recon Unit: This unit is a recon unit that uses BRDM-2, BMD-3 and BTR-70 vehicles for recon work. Having recon units in your attacks can increase your chances of victory. (Cost: 5, is a recon unit)

Infantry Unit: This is the basic combat soldiers of the army. This unit has no vehicles to use in combat, only trucks to bring them to and from battlefields, during a battle they fight on foot. They are armed with assault rifles, grenades and light-machineguns. Foot infantry are good against anything but tanks and mechanized infantry. Infantry are very good at defending. (Cost: 3)

Airborne Infantry Unit: Airborne Infantry are the same as normal ‘Infantry Units’ but they can jump from a An-22 transport planes to paradrop onto enemy units. Paratroopers have all the same advantages and disadvantages of normal infantry. (Cost: 8, can parajumps from the An-22 Transport Aircraft Units, can be carried in Mi-17 helicopter units)

BMP-2 Gulan Anti-Tank Unit: The BMP-2 Gulan is a converted BMP-3 that carries a anti-tank missile launcher on its roof. This unit is very good against tanks and other vehicles, but weak against everything else. (Cost: 6)

ZSU-23-4 Anti-Aircraft Unit: The ZSU-23-4 is a armored vehicle with 4 23mm anti-aircraft/helicopter cannons on it. It is good against enemy aircraft and helicopters. (Cost: 6)

SA-15 ‘Gauntlet’ Anti-Aircraft SAM Unit: The SA-15 ‘Gauntlet’ is a large armored vehicle that carries a anti-aircraft missile launcher on it. This unit is very good against enemy aircraft but has no ground defense. (Cost: 10)

Commando Unit: Commandos are elite special forces troops. They can do any of the missions listed under the ‘Special Forces’ rules in the INFO topic. (Cost: 14)

Towed Artillery Unit: Towed artillery are the standard truck-towed howitzers that many of you are common with. They are good against any ground unit at long range but they defeintly need to be protected as they are weak against any unit attacking them. (Cost: 3)

MSTA-A Self-Propelled Artillery Unit: This unit is basically the same as the above unit but the MSTA-A vehicle is a tracked and armored vehicle that carries a long range artillery gun inside it. (Cost: 6)

BM-22 Self-Propelled Rocket Artillery Unit: The BM-22 is a 6x6 heavy truck that carries a large rocket artillery launcher on it. Rockets are good against infantry and tanks. (Cost: 8)

Air Units:

Mig-29 ‘Fulcrum-C’ Fighter Unit: The Mig-29C is the latest version of this famous fighter. It is a good anti-aircraft fighter. (Cost: 10)

Su-27 ‘Flanker’ Fighter Unit: The Su-27 is another Russian designed fighter. It only carries anti-aircraft weapons. (Cost: 12)

Su-35BM ‘Frogfoot’ Attack Plane: The Su-25BM is a small anti-ground plane with very good armor. (Cost: 10)

Su-24 ‘Fencer’ Attack Bomber Unit: The Su-24 is a tactical bomber that can carry a large anti-ground and anti-facility weapon load. (Cost: 14, can carry 1 ‘air dropped nuclear weapon load’)

Mig-27 ‘Flogger’ Fighter/Attack Unit: The Flogger is an older but still effective fighter/attack plane. It carries both anti-ground and anti-air weapons. (Cost: 8)

Tu-160 ‘Blackjack’ Strategic Bomber Unit: The Tu-160 is faster than the Tu-95MS and has better electronics. But it can’t carry as big of a bomb load. The Tu-160 is good against enemy ground units and facilities but has no anti-aircraft defense. (Cost: 24, can carry 1 ‘plane dropped nuclear weapon’)

Tu-142 ‘Bear-F’ Anti-Ship/Anti-Submarine Patrol Unit: This plane is a modified Tu-95 Bear bomber. But instead of bombs this plane carries torpedoes and depth charges to destroy enemy ships and submarines. This unit is very good at finding enemy submarines. (Cost: 15)

A-40 ‘Mainstay’ Early Warning Unit: The A-40 has a very powerful RADAR mounted on it. It can detect enemy aircraft from very far away. The A-40 has no weapons so it should probably be escorted by fighters. When a player has an Early Warning Aircraft Unit in a battle he gives his aircraft all a better chance of winning. (Cost: 16, can help friendly aircraft in a battle)

An-22 Air Transport Unit: The AN-22 is an unarmed transport plane. (Cost: 10, can carry 1 ground unit)

Mi-8 ‘Hip-E’ Assault Transport Helicopter Unit: The Mi-8E carries rocket pods and other light weapons. Each Mi-8E squadron can transport 1 Airborne Infantry Unit. (Cost: 6, can carry 1 Airborne Infantry Unit)

Ka-27 ‘Helix-A’ Naval Anti-Submarine/Anti-Ship Helicopter Unit: The ‘Helix-A’ is a sub hunting chopper that can operate from carriers. (Cost: 8, can be based on carriers and helicopter carriers)

Ka-27 ‘Helix-B’ Naval Transport Helicopter Unit: The ‘Helix-B’ is a transport version of the above unit. It can operate off assault landing ships and it can carry 1 Infantry Unit. (Cost: 10, can carry 1 Infantry Unit)

Naval Units:

’Minsk’ Class Helicopter Carrier: The Minsk is a small helicopter carrier that has good anti-aircraft and anti-air weapons. (Cost: 28, can carry 1 Naval Helicopter Unit)

’Slava’ Class Missile Cruiser: The Slava Missile Cruiser is a big ship that carries big long range anti-ship missiles. It also has good anti-aircraft weapons. (Cost: 30)

’Sovremenny’ Class Destroyer: This ship is a good multipurpose ship that carries good anti-ship and anti-air weapons. (Cost: 24)

’Udaloy’ Class Destroyer: This class is good for hunting enemy submarines, it carries good anti-submarine weapons and some anti-air weapons. (Cost: 20)

’Parchim’ Class Frigate: The ‘Parchim’ class is Ukraine’s newest Frigate and has new electronics and advanced weapons. It is a good multi-purpose ship. (Cost: 17)

’Grisha’ Class Corvette: The ‘Grisha’ is a good multi-purpose ship. This ship is good at chasing enemy submarines and protecting fleets from sub attack. (Cost: 12)

’Nanuchka’ Class Corvette: The ‘Nanuchka’ class corvette is a good fast surface attack ship. It carries small anti-ship weapons and light anti-aircraft weapons. (Cost: 10)

HELLO HELLO

Day 3
Ukraine Invades Belarus

The Ukraine forces easily took out the city of Mazyr, which was pretty close to the border. Driving the campaign further into Belarus towards the capital city was the tricky part, since Belarus had old former Soviet Union left over units. Ukraine army, which was using some Russian designed units itself, had some stalemates, but in the end it was the Ukrainians that won. Reaching the capital and flattening it, the Ukraine generals thought it would be no problem securing the rest of the country, however this country which gave the Soviet Union such a hard time, wasn’t about to let Ukraine get away with anything less that full resistance.

Ukraine Victory!

Losses:
1 50% Damaged T-84 Oplot Tank
1 Destroyed BMP-2 Mech. Inf.
1 Destroyed Mig-29 ‘Fulcrum-C’

HELLO HELLO

Day 10
Ukraine Invades Romania

The exhausted Romanian military can’t hold up against the Ukraine army which keeps pouring into the country as time goes by. Supplies are getting dangerously low. In one final battle in the city of Ploiesti, the Romanians put up one last stand to try and stop the Ukraine army from taking over the capital. This bloody battle, now called the Battle of Ploiesti, lasted for three days. Many people were killed on both sides. However, the Romanians lost, and as what was left of the Ukraine army marched victorious into Bucharest, the Romanian President was forced to surrender.
