North Korean Units

The Peoples Army

Type 59- Most PLA equipment is produced from Soviet designs of the 1950s, but weapons were being incrementally upgraded, some with Western technology. The Type 59 main battle tank is based on the Soviet T-54. It is a oldie but goodie, has nice potent gun and is cheap. (Cost: 8c)

T62- Like the T-59 but with a much more powerful gun. Is the main battle tank of the DPRK Army. (Cost: 10c)

T55- The layout of the T-54 is conventional, with the main armament comprising a 100mm rifled gun. The T-54 has been used more than any other tank since the Second World War. It is intended for combat actions involving tanks, combat vehicles, armoured personnel carriers and other armored enemy targets. Good for large scale attacks with mass infantry. Has an ok gun and good maneuverability. (Cost: 7c)

T-34 Medium Tank- An old tank design, the T34 still has some firepower. It isnt nearly as strong as many other models of tanks but is good when you need reinforcements fast. (Cost: 5c)

Recon Unit- Made of light tanks and Jeeps, these units will increase the ability of your ground units in battle. (Cost: 6, is a recon unit)

BMP-1 Fighting Vehicle- Used by many 3rd world countries, the BMP-1 is cheap and has a solid gun. (Cost: 4)

Type 85 Armored Personnel Carrier- Used to carry soldiers, the T85 has weak armament. But it is amphibous and gives bonus in attacking. (Cost: 5c)

M1989- Much better armor than Towed Artillery, but still vulnerable. This artillery has a very good bombardment and is the DPRK's main artillery piece. (Cost: 7c)

M1977- Weaker than the M1989 but cheaper. Still better than towed. (Cost: 5c)

Towed Artillery Unit- Towed artillery are the standard truck-towed howitzers that many of you are common with. They are good against any ground unit at long range but they defeintly need to be protected as they are weak against any unit attacking them. (Cost: 2c)

Infantry Unit- This is the basic combat soldiers of the army. This unit has no vehicles to use in combat, only trucks to bring them to and from battlefields, during a battle they fight on foot. They are armed with assault rifles, grenades and light-machineguns. Foot infantry are good against anything but tanks and mechanized infantry. Infantry are very good at defending. (Cost: 2c)

KS-19 100-mm Towed AA Gun- Like the artillery, these are used to back up the main force. It is good agaisnt aircraft, especially helicopters. (Cost: 8c)

37mm Self-Propelled AA Gun- This anti-aircraft gun, unlike the KS-19, is mounted onto armored carriers. It is cheap and very affordable, but weak compared to the KS-19. Ok against all aircraft. (Cost: 3c)

Engineer Unit- Engineer units can greatly help offensive and defensive operations, a player should have engineer units with all of their major operations. Engineer units include trucks, bull-dozers, engineer-tanks and other specialized engineering vehicles. They can help build defenses and help clear enemy defenses. (Cost: 10c)

Commando Unit- Commandos are elite special forces troops. They can do any of the missions listed under the ‘Special Forces’ rules in the INFO topic. (Cost: 14)

Airborne Infantry Unit- Airborne Infantry are the same as normal ‘Infantry Units’ but they can jump from C-130 Air Transport Units to paradrop onto enemy units. Paratroopers have all the same advantages and disadvantages of normal infantry. (Cost: 8, can parajumps from C-130 Transport Aircraft Units, can be carried in JetRanger Assault Transport Helicopter units)

Anti-Tank Unit- A simple design, the DPRK anti-tank unit isnt especially strong and might actually be weaker than her counterparts. Cheap. (Cost: 7c)

The Peoples Air Force

MiG-21 FISHBED- An older plan, designed in Russia, it is the mainstay of the weak DPRK Air Force. (Cost: 6c)

MiG-29 FULCRUM- Better than the MiG-21 in every way, the MiG-29 is the strongest plane in the DPRK but still weak when compared to other models in advances countries. (Cost: 10c)

MiG-23 FLOGGER- The successor to the MiG-21, the MiG-23 is good on defense and ok vs land targets. (Cost: 8c)

Mi-24 HIND Attack Helicopter- A good helicopter designed in Russia, it is best used in coordination with infantry and land attacks. (Cost: 8c)

Y-5 Colt- Once used for agriculture, it now is used as an effective air transport. (Cost: 10c, can carry 1 infantry unit)

Mi-2 HOPLITE- An all purpose aircraft, the Hoplite can transport, do rescue missions, recon, and it has an ok weapon to use against ground forces. (Cost: 9c, can carry 1 airborne infantry)

The Peoples Navy

FF Soho Class- Only 1 is in operation, and the DPRK has a better option in the Najin. But the Soho is cheaper. (Cost: 11c)

FFL Najin Class- With only a few in commission, the DPRK's best naval tool is still not that strong or numerous in number. It carries some anti-aircraft and anti-submarine equipment but is expensive for this poor nation to build. (Cost: 14c)

PG Sariwon Class- A small corvette ship, the Sariwon is aged and outdated. It is luckily, cheap like most of the North Korean's equipment. (Cost: 5c)

PC S.O. 1 Class- Not a spectacular patrol boat by any means, the S.O just does its job. It has ok firepower, but is aged. (Cost: 7c)

Kongbang class Air-Cushioned Vehicles (ACV)- North Korea has built and operates some 130-40 Air-Cushioned Vehicles (ACV). Various versions carry 35 to 55 troops. One ACV can carry one Special Operations Force platoon for surprise landing. Designed to support mobility in mud flats, these craft are well-suited to the scenario of a surprise amphibious landings during the initial phase of a war. (Cost: 14c, can carry 1 ground unit)

Transport Ship- The Transport Ship carries no weapons; it only carries 2 ground units. It can carry 2 ground units but only from one friendly harbor to another or to a beachhead that has been secured. (Cost: 12c, carries 2 ground units, defenseless)

Submarines

SS Romeo Class- The engines of the Romeo are powered by diesel , but is a good small sub. It carries anti-ship and anti-sub torpedoes, and is relatively expensive for this cheap infantry minded nation. (Cost: 13c)

That's cool, but who would want to play as North Korea, when China is right there, and Japan is across the way? A challenging nation I'm sure.

I'd like to have Yugoslavia aswell

although that would require a slight re-editing of the world's borders...

they have some interesting units

When ancient Rome was near defeat,
the invincible Tenth Legion was raised:
they beat the barbarians on the battlefield
and Rome gained peace with honour again.
When the traitor, on September the eighth,
left the fatherland in infamy,
the Tenth Flotilla was raised from the sea
and it brought weapons at the cry for honour!

Oh our Tenth Flotilla,
you that mocked England,
you victorious on Alexandria,
Malta, Souda and Gibraltar,
you already victorious upon the sea,
now even on the dry land
you will win!

To you Italian ships, stolen from us
not in battle but by treason,
and to you, our prisoners and dead brothers,
we swear:
we swear that we'll came back,
let this be God's and the Flag's will.
We swear that we'll fight
until we obtain an honourable peace!
